The problems were grouped into 5 main themes:
Theme 1: Too little water
Theme 2: Too much water
Theme 3: Poor water quality
Theme 4: Ageing water infrastructure
Theme 5: Water use behaviour
The best ideas were invited into 12 month funded Geovation Programme to include financial, developer, and business support.

Calculate the rain harvesting potential of UK residential and commercial roofs. By identifying how much water our roofs can collect for us, we can begin to understand the potential for capturing on a wide scale. Harvested rain water is ideal for use where clean or treated water is not necessary.
Manufacture a small recycled carboardbox, similar to a juice carton but half its size able to contain about 500ml of liquid. It would be square with a "funnel" top for easy pouring and a simple lid. These would be manufactured in a way to make them ultra affordable and easily available through supermarket chains so that everyone would be happy to add them to their monthly shopping and have a Fat Box on or near their sink. ...more »

Extend the canal network by restoration of former waterways as well as some new channels to provide surface and fluvial flood solutions. Combining these with balancing lakes on sites such as former quarries and an integrated flood management solution can be formed at relatively low cost.
Use OS aerial maps and a citizen science platform like zooniverse to map the likely impermeable infrastructure in urban areas - like front gardens that have been made into car parking spaces etc

Analyse and monitor the health of trees in riparian, estuarine and coastal areas as a method of identifying poor water quality. The health of trees near water sources can be directly influenced by the quality of that water. Understanding and monitoring the health of these trees could provide insight into where water quality is an issue, and help identify an patterns in quality improvement/reduction.
