What are the barriers to people participating in physical activity in open spaces?

Before you submit an idea please read the problems we identified and register or log in to the Challenge. You can also comment on or rate ideas

The best ideas can win a slice of £100 000 in funding to develop innovative ventures that make best use of Ordnance Survey data, including OS OpenData and OS OpenSpace, technology and good design to address the problems

The problems are grouped into 6 main themes:

Theme 1: First hurdles
Theme 2: Knowledge and communication
Theme 3: Enabling new behaviours
Theme 4: Planning and measuring
Theme 5: Financial barriers
Theme 6: Infrastructure, Assets and Resources

Please state which theme your ideas addresses.

The challenge runs from 7 November 2013 to the new extended deadline of 15 January 2014 (12noon).

Tagd - for explorers

Tagd turns everyone into an explorer. It is primarily a mobile phone app that allows parents to lay treasure trails for their children, running clubs to create their Hare and Hounds trails, and local community groups to help residents rediscover parks and outdoor spaces. Medal Routes Mobile App

Medal Routes is an already established project using OS data to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds throughout Scotland to integrate walking into their daily life. Medal Routes are short circular walks from identified walking hubs (15, 30 and 60 minute) – by October 2014 we will have mapped over 360 routes and created 120 walking hubs throughout Scotland. OpenPlay - Find and book sports facilities & Activities online

Park sports noticeboards are typically well hidden and out-of-date. Activity organisers usually have to produce expensive flyers and hope that people see them. Most park facilities cannot be booked online, you have to call and often are left frustrated.
