Based on the model pioneered by Refill Bristol, Refillable Cities would see every city and town in the UK reduce its dependency on plastic-bottled water. The aim is to change the mindset of the public when it comes to single-use plastics and stem the flow of plastic litter reaching our oceans.
Refill Bristol is a practical campaign to make Bristol a city in which refilling your water bottle becomes a cultural norm, with refill points on every street, via cafes, retailers, hotels and businesses as well as installing more water fountains at key locations around the city.
Once established, the campaign can be rolled out in cities nationwide.
How will it work? Participating cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums and other businesses simply put a sticker in their window – alerting passers-by to the fact they’re welcome to come on in and fill up their bottle – for free!
A Refill Bristol app will be launched alongside the Refill Bristol Campaign, and the public will be encouraged to ‘use the app to find a tap’ - a free refill point.
