Geovation Greener Smarter Communities Challenge

Growing gardens

Some people live in buildings without access to their own gardens, some want more space, and some want to utilise their gardens but do not have the time. Sure, there are shared allotment gardens around but there’s a waiting list for that, so why not use other free green areas such as private gardens?

People can be connected through our platform where individuals/groups interested in growing food can find those with free garden space. The space provider must have at least a season’s worth of commitment, and may choose to charge the user a small fee or get involved and share some of the produce. Our team may also use any free gardens space to grow organic food and sell them at the local farmer’s market. This latter scheme may be open to volunteers who are eager to learn how to grow their own food. Ideally, we want to bring people with similar interests together as well as connect people to their food.

If successful, we would want to include features where people with other garden tools or material such as compost can find those that are looking for it.
